About Louise
I’m Louise Durham, a glass artist based in Shoreham-by-Sea. I live just a five-minute walk from the beach and a short stroll from my studio and allotment garden. This vibrant coastal community inspires my work and reflects my non-conformist spirit, embracing a life of creativity I never wish to retire from.
My working life balances indoor creation in my studio and tending to my garden, grounding myself in natures beauty. Photographing my sculptures against the backdrop of the beach at sunrise or sunset is an essential part of my practice, capturing the interplay of light and colour as artworks in their own right. Shoreham holds a special place in film history as the original centre of filmmaking in the UK, and it’s no coincidence that I call this place home. The light here is transformative, shaping my artistic vision and connecting me to the beauty around me.
Celebrating light is at the heart of my practice, I aim to evoke wonder and connection. I’m particularly fascinated by how light and colour influence our mood, reduce stress, and promote healing. This understanding informs my work, as I design pieces to engage the senses and invite emotional responses, creating environments that foster tranquility and joy. While my sculptures are focal points, I also craft bespoke lighting and thoughtful glass gifts that celebrate special moments and people.
Additionally, my course, "Unfurling the Creative," is designed to help others discover and cultivate their artistic potential, providing a nurturing space for creativity to flourish.
All of my creative offering are made with loving intention, I hope to bring light to any space and any heart.
